Role Perspective as a Nurse Practitioner on Coding and Billing

Role Perspective as a Nurse Practitioner on Coding and Billing

How critical is accurate coding of patient care to nursing and health care?

Accurate coding of patient care is critical in nursing and health care because it protects patients’ medical records. Accurate medical coding, according to Cummings et al. (2011), documents exactly what diagnosis and treatments were prescribed to a specific patient. Furthermore, accurate coding is critical in the medical billing process. The accurate documentation of the payment system of checks and balances is what allows the billing department to be transparent (Heywood et al., 2016). Furthermore, accurate coding enables healthcare providers to conduct statistical analyses of both the patient population and the services provided.

What do you think the consequences will be for healthcare and the goals you’ve set if we don’t achieve accuracy?

It is obvious that if we do not achieve accuracy in the healthcare setting, there will be adverse or negative effects that will affect the overall performance of the healthcare setting. Inaccuracy in the healthcare system is likely to result in patient misdiagnosis because the appropriate documents are not used for specific patients. This can lead to severe side effects of medication misdiagnosis or even death in the affected patients. In addition, I believe there will be a great deal of dishonesty and unaccountability regarding the financial status of the healthcare system.

How could you use accurate coding data to improve the workplace and health care?

I could use accurate coding data to improve the work environment and healthcare by ensuring that everything in the healthcare system runs smoothly. Accurate coding will improve transparency and accountability, and every healthcare professional will strive to perform to the best of their abilities at work. As a result, everyone will have a more productive work environment, as well as better healthcare.
