Becoming a nurse has always been my aspiration since childhood. However, nursing is a dynamic and broad field. It has been my commitment to search for a prestigious institution where I would acquire professional training that would equip me with adequate nursing techniques and skills. Consequently, I was determined to land on an institution whose vision and mission rhyme with mine. All through my planning, I longed to join an institution that offered quality training, particularly in the field of nursing. Therefore it is significant to indicate that I had various universities in consideration, but I had to choose one. Walden University also engages students in physical exercise, which plays a key role in social change (Garrin, 2014). In consideration of the advancing technology, I narrowed my choice to a campus that would advance me technology-wise. Technology has resulted in various variations in the field of healthcare, particularly in nursing, and I considered it wise to opt for an institution that would make me technologically updated. As a result, I had to put all factors into consideration before choosing a university to join. Generally, Walden University emphasizes engagements that result in social change, which is among the goals of nursing (Brown & Baltes, 2017). Based on the same I began searching for an institution that offered advanced training in psychiatric cerebral health.

After researching for many months, I ended up choosing Walden University, which I found the best. Amongst the factors that made me opt for Walden University is because its vision and mission resonated with mine. Since when I landed at Walden University, I was over doubt that I had made the right choice hoping that I would not regret it. Particularly, I discovered that the institution’s visions or missions covered what I felt necessary in the field of nursing. According to Yob 2016, the vision of Walden University entailed essential core values like integrity, quality, and student-centered that would be essential in the attainment of my career.

In this module, you begin laying the foundation for your academic and professional success. Your efforts begin with a vision that includes your own definition of success. Your vision may vary from those of your colleagues, but this does not mean you have to take these first steps alone.

Walden University and the College of Nursing also have a vision and mission, which include helping you to make your own vision a reality. Members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support teams, and fellow students, can also be helpful. Current practitioners and another member of the professional community can also help you to clarify your vision.

This Module’s Discussion asks you to consider how the Walden mission and vision as well as the College of Nursing’s mission and vision apply to your professional and academic goals. You will also begin to identify individuals and teams who can help you along the way as you begin designing the “blueprint”—your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision for academic and professional success. Finally, you will explain the importance of networking and how it can help you achieve your professional and academic goals.
