Both the new and old systems must be run concurrently to ensure that the results are consistent and that every aspect of the new System functions properly.

Real-time processes solve several problems for businesses, primarily because they respond instantly to any entry that is generated and provide an up-to-the-minute correct count of everything that happens in the industry. The ability to obtain the correct data at any time allows the material to be reordered or stored as needed.

Inventory and production analysis that is automated significantly reduces the variables that could cause discrepancies. Automating a process that used to take forever to keep track of manually saves not only time but also speeds up production while lowering manpower costs. The financial situation may appear weak at the start of the implementation, but the change will bring benefits in a very short time, and the benefits are usually substantial. My friend’s company manufactures medical equipment that must be as precise as possible, which typically takes a long time not only to produce but also to ensure that the FDA will accept the goods as viable. Real-time machines can be programmed to reduce disparities, which is especially important when the medical equipment produced also contains the medication. Some of the syringes manufactured, for example, are prefilled with insulin for diabetics, and the product must be examined twice and weighted to ensure the machine is delivering the correct dosage. The same can be said for asthma inhalers and other products of a similar nature.

When the products being manufactured are exactly as they should be, the Real-Time System becomes much faster, and the time spent adjusting and tweaking to perfection is recovered in a matter of days (Malvern Co. 2012).

Another disadvantage of implementing Real-Time is the training. Because each Real Time System is not created equal but is always made to specification for each company’s needs, user training can be a daunting task at times. To avoid boring and frightening new users, training is typically done in small segments, with each user initially receiving only instructions on how to do their specific part. When the System is fully operational, continuing training is provided to provide cross-training for employees and supervisors.

Special training is also provided for the corporation’s IT personnel so that if the need for a quick fix arises, the internal personnel can correct it without causing the downtime that would be required if a specialist were called on-site. The best implementation firms also provide online training and web conferences. If one employee learns faster than another and wishes to use the online courses, they can do so at their own pace.

As each phase of the implementation is completed, results will be provided to the company to show exactly what has been done thus far, as well as whether that phase was immediately successful or required some retouching. In most cases, the client would rather know about a minor or major setback than be kept in the dark about how their money is being spent.

Real-Time systems are simple to learn and use, with a simple GUI (graphical user interface) that makes them appealing to look at and administer. Most Real-Time systems use one of the major frameworks, such as Linx, Luminosity, Spyker, and others, and they resemble, in part, the very common Microsoft environment, which is a selling point for employees who are uncomfortable operating.

For the time being, the Real Time system is the best solution for this corporation; however, as time passes and technology advances, more difficult and embedded programs will become available. From the basic versions of the programs to the final optimized, customized product, these systems will become increasingly complex. One of the recommendations made during this implementation was to ensure that the company received all of the bells and whistles from the start because, with the introduction of new systems, it would be difficult to find a programmer willing or able to import changes.

In an environment where production is critical, a Real-Time System is a must, regardless of how long it takes to implement or how much it costs. At the end of the day, it provides higher-quality products while significantly lowering product costs.
