Week 6 Discussion 2-HP

Sukhvir,

Thank you for sharing your post. It may be argued that in all of the ways that improvement in technology has enhanced human lives in the world, there is none that is as significant as medical technological advances. From the time the X-Ray was invented to the advances made in surgical procedures, technology has increased people’s life expectancies and made them healthier. As we move even further into the 21st century, technologies that cure diseases and improve the quality of life continue to be developed. Technology and health informatics is one area significantly integrated with technology, and professionals in this field can help push healthcare boundaries. In the past, hospital information systems were disparate and clumsy, to say the least, in their ability to transfer and share patient information and records. With the EHRs, several systems have been connected, which has allowed the transfer of information at faster speeds and efficient and integrated care.

You have pointed out that several technologies help advance medical care to the next level. Two cases in point are remote monitoring tools and wearable devices. When patients can monitor their health away from the healthcare facilities, they can reduce unnecessary physician office visits and save money. Millions of patients are increasingly using home monitoring systems for their health conditions. Pacemakers, for example, for patients with heart conditions, are now able to send data automatically to health centers in remote places. Patients with chronic illnesses stand to benefit from these tools as they can monitor the health of such patients from a distance (Piccini et al., 2016). Additionally, the wearable device market is growing very fast (Marakhimov & Joo, 2017). Wearable devices collect data, allowing healthcare providers and patients to assess and monitor the wearer’s health. Further, there are also wearable devices such as watches and wristbands that allow users to be more active in caring for their own health

Conventionally, systems of health care have been inclined on the treatment of diseases rather than disease prevention. With the evolving advancements in health care, the shift to reliable prevention techniques is more fundamental. Nurse practitioners’ role in preventative health services is to maximize the evidence-based studies and recommendations to strengthen patient’s health (Bryndin et al., 2017). Nurses are the link to healthier lifestyles that is through assisting patients to acquire services such as screening, medication, or counseling and through encouragement and precautionary procedures.
The nursing profession has always been considered a caring profession since they can also work as case managers either informally or formally. Informally, nurses work with individuals so that they can acquire the holistic care required for optimal purposes. While formally, their role is to assist people to cruise through the systems of health care. Nurse-led intervention, for instance: pedometer, reminding via phone calls, and setting of goals, is a reliable way to uphold exercise compliance (Witlox et al., 2019). This particularly helps in older adults and enhances the prevention of cardiovascular risk factors.
There are several technologies that help in advancing medical care to the next level. First is the portable monitor, allowing nurses to see their patients when they are moving or assisting someone else. Second is the centralized command center which assists doctors in clinical technology, controlling supplies and bed capacities (Hofmann, et al., 2018). The third is telehealth which gives a chance for patients to virtually face chat with a health professional. Fourth is the automated IV pump which manages drips and dosages of patients. Fifth is the technology of smart beds, which aid in tracking the weight and movement of patients.
