The DNP-Prepared Nurses and their Community

The DNP-Prepared Nurses and their Community

The DNP-prepared nurse is uniquely positioned to make a difference in the lives of their patients and communities. They have the clinical knowledge and skills to provide direct patient care and the research and evidence-based practice expertise to develop and implement programs that can improve patient outcomes and population health (Kesten et al., 2022). The DNP- prepared nurse’s role is to address local issues and improve community health.

Local Issues

The DNP-level nurse is well-suited to address a wide range of pressing regional concerns. School-based meal programs and mandatory vaccination laws are two examples (Skipper, 2019). They also include diabetes education for elderly outpatients in a community health clinic, reducing the number of re-admits of patients who have had outpatient procedures, and reducing the number of patients who falls on a medical/surgical hospital floor.

Addressing Local Issues

The DNP-prepared nurse has an important role to play in advocating for vaccine and vaccination laws. They can provide testimony to state and federal legislators about the importance of vaccines in protecting public health and work with local organizations to ensure that everyone has access to these lifesaving medications. The DNP-educated nurse also has an important role to play in improving nutritional aid programs for school-aged children (Tussing et al., 2018). They can work with schools and community organizations to develop and implement programs that provide students with healthy meals and education on nutrition and healthy eating habits. The nurse with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree will also be able to help senior outpatients in a public health clinic who need knowledge on diabetes. They can work with clinics to develop and implement educational programs for patients to help them manage their diabetes better and improve their overall health.

Another problem that the DNP-educated nurse may help fix is the high rate of readmissions for patients with outpatient treatments. They can work with hospitals and outpatient clinics to develop and implement protocols to help prevent readmissions, such as follow-up appointments and home care instructions. Also, the DNP-level nurse is better equipped to deal with the problem of clinical errors in hospital units (McCamey, 2022). They can work with hospitals to develop and implement fall prevention protocols, such as bedside rails and non-slip floors.

Overall, the DNP-prepared nurse is uniquely positioned to make a difference in the lives of their patients and communities. They have the clinical knowledge and skills to provide direct patient care and the research and evidence-based practice expertise to develop and implement programs that can improve patient outcomes and population health. This inspires nurses to get involved in their communities and make a positive difference.
