When nurses use EBP, they are able to involve their patients in the nursing care plan. Healthcare organizations, too, may benefit from EBP by eliminating outdated procedures and practices that may be costly in patient management, hence reducing the costs involved. The patients also may benefit from EBP by receiving high-quality care aiding survival rates.

How Do I See the EBP Being Implemented at My Workplace?

First, it is important to identify the appropriate resources required for implementation. These resources include online search engines and access to medical journals by the nursing staff. Ensure that computers with Internet are available in the nursing units. Another vital resource for applying EBP in nursing is time. Ensure that the hospital administration sorts out the issue of nurse shortages so that enough nurses are available for EBP.

After ensuring the availability of resources, it is important to ensure that the nurses are trained on EBP and how to apply it in daily practice. It is important for institutions to invest financially in the implementation processes aimed at improving the quality of nursing practices. (Hockenberry et al., 2006). The next step is framing a clinical question that will help identify the problem. Nurses will then be involved in gathering the best evidence cited in journals and books. After getting evidence, the next step is applying it to clinical practice and assessing the results following the implementation. As EBP is applied in the hospital, it is important to identify and address the barriers that will affect the implementation process.
