AACN competencies and Walden’s mission, vision, and outcomes for the Doctoral degree are the terminal degrees for nurses. DNP and Ph.D. degrees are set to prepare doctoral students with an advanced level of knowledge in their practice fields (AACN, 2006). Nurses prepared for doctorate education are able to meet and solve complex challenges in the healthcare field for the provision of high-quality services and demonstrate high competence in leadership to improve patients’ outcomes and enhance the ability of the facilities and nursing units to function optimally (AACN, 2006). Additionally, doctorate-prepared nursing students are able to integrate research and evidence-based practice to enhance the preparedness of their practice to solve diverse problems facing patients and nursing staff in their respective units or facilities (Walden University, 2015).
