Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Academic Success

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Academic Success

In the recent past, most people in the world have had mental health issues which are associated with depression and anxiety. There, there is a need for many psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners to assist in identifying the type of disorder the individuals are going through and the possible remedy to that mental health disorder (Cusack & Nugent, 2017). This is an area that needs more focus where psychiatric mental health registered nurses should work with families, communities, and individuals to assess their mental health. The PMH nurse is responsible for developing a diagnosis and plan of care and evaluating its effectiveness. They should also be at the forefront of offering psychiatric mental health to people by assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with any potential psychiatric disorder (Hunter & Harris, 2015). It is advisable that psychiatric mental health nurse use their full scope of therapeutical skills to deal with patients and identify the disorder affecting them or that makes them in unstable mental conditions.

My interest in becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner is due to the shortage of nurse practitioners to cater to the increasing number of people with mental health issues (Hunter & Harris, 2015). I aim to work with primary care and specialist providers to offer advanced care to psychiatric disorder patients. If we have many PMHNPs, it would therefore be easy to assess and diagnose many people and of care to those suffering from various mental issues (Cusack & Nugent, 2017). The demand for psychiatric nurse practitioners will always be on the rise due to the increase in population. Recently, most people have been in substance use while others are affected by higher expectations and thoughts, which is the primary cause of a high number of people with mental health issues.

The other reason for choosing this field is due to the condition of my son since his birth. My son, who is 17 years old, has been suffering from ADHD/ADD all his life, and this has triggered me to join the field and become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner to see if there are options or other means I can assist my son to get out of that condition (Hunter & Harris, 2015). Joining this field will also pray a vital role in helping me better to understand the most appropriate ways of parenting him and assist in bridging the gap in the providers in NC. ADHD is a condition where an individual concentration is too low, or he/she loses concentration so easily and may also daydream (Cusack & Nugent, 2017). This is a clear indication that the child is affected by attention deficit or hyperactivity disorder.

It is my expectation that I will effectively use my education to impact many people, especially people who are suffering from any form of disorder and need immediate and advanced psychiatric care. The knowledge I will gain will also help me better parent my son for the conditions he is suffering from (Hunter & Harris, 2015). This will improve his condition and the condition of other people who have any type of disorder or mental health issues. It is also my belief that I will positively impact people and help improve their mental health through my education. I am also planning to find a preceptor for clinical hours to assist me before I join the program (Cusack & Nugent, 2017). I also aim to visit a few clinics and hospitals in Wake County that offer psychiatric care to people and let them know my interest in this field in my effort to seek a preceptorship.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is important most people advance their knowledge and skills in PMHNP to effectively offer care to the increasing population that needs psychiatric care. I need to earn a master’s degree in and gain advanced skills to offer psychiatric care to patients.
