Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

In the US, there is a board that protects nurses that is known as the Board of Nursing. However, the rules and regulations differ in each and every state despite the fact that around 50 states are registered with the Board of Nursing. In this discussion, we will talk about Florida and California Board of Nursing. In the comparison of the two states, in California, there is the California Board of nursing regulations, while in Florida, there is the Florida board of nursing regulations. In the state of California, the California registered board of Nurses is responsible for all the regulations regarding the practice of nursing. For instance, the first regulation is; the issuance of nursing licenses, nursing education, registration of nurses, and much more regulations (Sobel & Fogarty, 2020).

I realized that the differences between the two states’ boards of nursing are less compared to the similarities. However, the differences comprise of. In California State, all the sections in the nursing industry have their own regulations, while on the other hand, Florida is protected under one section of the Board of Nursing and much more differences (DeNisco, 2019). APRNs are advanced registered nurses, and it has been realized that in both states, the act of nursing practice is what defines the APRN’s practice. However, the Nursing Practice Act in each and every state is ruled by the Board of Nurses in each of them. On the other hand, some of the differences in regulations can interfere with the nursing practice. For example, in the state of Florida, the midwives are included under ARNPs and CNSs of the state’s NPA, while in California; this is under the Board in Article 6 of their NPA.

Question

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.
