Through such an approach, it is possible to empower patients to care for themselves (Koo et al., 2016). Great work with your post! I like how you highlighted the importance of communication skills when using telehealth. Undoubtedly, telehealth is different from traditional health care service delivery (Rothwell, Ellington, Planalp, & Crouch, 2012). Thus, it requires a completely different approach to be successful. In addition to the communication aspects that you highlighted, simple ‘living room’ language is important. This means that doctors should not use medical jargon and other technical terms that may undermine the process. The use of simple language should be accompanied by the teach-back method to ensure that the client understands the message as intended. The method also allows the NPs to confirm the patients’ understanding regarding medication. The method has been found to improve patient recall, understanding of immunization details, comprehension of consent forms, and better outcomes in relation to Diabetes and heart conditions

The term “telehealth” often refers technology based health care framework. This can include services such as virtual visits, mobile health care, and remote patient monitoring. Telehealth is becoming a vital process for providing access to cost-effective quality care to patients at a distance (Rutledge et al., 2017)
Evidence suggests that telehealth provides comparable health outcomes when compared with traditional methods of health care delivery without compromising the patient–physician relationship, and it also has been shown to enhance patient satisfaction and improve patient engagement.
In response to drastic changes that have been experienced in health care today it is more evident than ever to see why telehealth is of benefit to Practitioners. Examples of essential reasoning for use of telehealth would be noted as increasing illness of patient with a multitude of chronic conditions, healthcare worker shortages, mandates to administrators to have providers reduce costs used, and the growing boom of technology in society.
In their daily practice, FNPs focus on the health and general well-being of their patients and the job goes beyond disease prevention, health promotion, education and counseling. They build relationships with their patients, families and the community (Koo et al., 2016). Therapeutic communication is also essential to building relationships with patients especially when the provider is not able to be right in person with the patient. The NP must actively listen to the patient and clearly communicate their understanding of the patients concern. Another important aspect of the therapeutic relationship is being able to watch visual cues that the patient may be expressing and to work to question the facial cues if needed.
