Characteristics Of Performance-Driven Team.

Characteristics Of Performance-Driven Team.

When evaluating the characteristics of a performance-driven team, these teams are identified as having a trusting relationship with one another. Having this trust allows each team member to feel at ease, communicate their ideas, and allow for growth and feedback. The team can then collaborate to achieve a common goal or objective, and success is achieved. This then motivates the team in a variety of ways. Extrinsic motivation is required for some people, while intrinsic motivation is required for others. They can, however, work together to achieve a common goal.

Intrinsic motivation arises from within, whereas extrinsic motivation emerges from without. Extrinsic motivation occurs when individuals perform an activity in exchange for an external reward. Goals for these people are outcome-oriented and do not meet their basic psychological needs. Their objectives involve obtaining external benefits such as money, fame, and power or avoiding consequences. 2019 (Santos-Longhurst).

Intrinsic motivation occurs when people engage in an activity because it is internally rewarding. They may do it because it is enjoyable, pleasurable, and satisfying. The goals of this motivation come from within, and the results satisfy the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. (2019, Santos-Longhurst) When it comes to working as a team, it is critical to understand these types of motivation styles because each individual requires motivation for each style to achieve the main goal of success. This provides opportunities for team growth, advancement, and strategy ideas. When these styles are not highlighted or recognized, the individual may be unable to express ideas or thoughts or communicate their role to the team, causing them to feel isolated from the group and perform poorly.
